OUR STORY
Yakdog was founded in January 2013 in Raleigh North Carolina. The owner of the company is an engineer and inventor with several patents in the electrical industry. From a very early age he was an avid fisherman. In the 90’s he fished competitively in offshore game fish tournaments. For a 10-year period however, he did not do much in the line of fishing.
For exercise he though paddling in a kayak would be a great way to stay in shape. Seeing a fishing kayak was the greatest thing, exercise and fish.
He bought a Tarpon 120 and immediately started to rig the kayak. This activity is of course a lot of fun for an engineer.
The aim for him was to make the kayak as flexible as possible for all types of fishing in any body of water, not to drill any unnecessary holes and have an easily transportable kayak on the roof of a vehicle.
After a year of kayak fishing, using off the shelf rigging equipment the mounting rails on the kayak was deformed and not functioning, as they should.
He then proceeded to find a solution to the problem and the Yakdog Mounting System was born in his basement. A patent was filed early in 2014 and awarded in 2017. Yakdog Inc. is striving to make it easier to fish from a kayak and to protect a kayak fisherman’s most important investment.
